Iran produces isocyanate for first time in Middle East, set to offer product on regional markets

An Iranian knowledge-based company producing isocyanate is preparing to offer its products on regional markets after fully meeting domestic needs.

This comes as the firm has successfully produced isocyanate products for the first time in the Middle East, says the head of the company’s petrochemical polyurethane research unit.
“Isocyanates have a variety of applications in different industries,” said Mahdi Soltani as quoted by the Center for Communications and Information Dissemination of the Presidential Office’s Department for Science and Technology and Knowledge-based Economy.
“We first identified the needs of the market, and knowing that the country is facing major problems importing the product, began trying to develop the technology to produce them,” added the source.
“The technology to produce isocyanates was developed completely based on home-grown knowhow and expertise,” he noted.
Soiltani added this company is, at the moment, the only producer of isocyanates in Iran, meeting around 60-70 percent of domestic needs in producing car seat foam, cold foam for furniture and sleeping goods.
The source added the firm will hopefully be able to fully meet local needs for isocyanate before beginning to export the product.
