Official: Traditional medicine in Iran based on knowledge

A senior official with the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy says the traditional medicine practiced in the country is based on knowledge and can be of great help in the health sector.

Mohammad-Reza Shams Ardakani, the secretary of the Vice Presidency’s HQ for the development of knowledge-based economy using medicinal plants and traditional medicine, said traditional medicine has long been a center of attention and continued to evolve throughout history.
He said the roots of Iran’s traditional medicine date back to 1,200 years ago and it was founded on knowledge from the beginning, and that is why it has survived and keeps developing.
Last year, the official added, Iran secured the fourth spot among the top producers of medicinal herbs and traditional medicine.
He added that many relevant articles by Iranian experts have been published in international publications, which shows that the world recognizes the scientific basis of Iranian traditional medicine.
