Russia inks aviation contracts with Iranian knowledge-based companies

Ruhollah Dehghani, Iran’s Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy revealed that Russia has signed substantial contracts with various Iranian knowledge-based companies.

These contracts specifically pertain to aircraft maintenance, marking a promising collaboration in the aviation sector.

Dehghani also shed light on the surplus of unused planes at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport while stressing: “These planes would be made operational through collaboration with Iranian knowledge-based companies, particularly in the supply of parts or engines for ground-handling airplanes at Mehrabad.”

The development comes as Iran, recognized as a prominent manufacturer of aircraft parts, holds expertise in the maintenance and repair of aircraft engines despite US sanctions in the aviation field.

Dehghani highlighted that Iran’s proficiency in these domains has garnered interest from countries like Russia, eager to engage with Iranian knowledge-based companies for aircraft supply and maintenance.

He stressed that the collaboration has the potential to significantly bolster Iran’s aviation industry and propel it towards self-sufficiency, despite years of sanctions.

The Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy noted that with concerted efforts and conducive conditions, Iran aspires to establish a robust aviation industry, underscoring its capabilities in aircraft manufacturing and maintenance.
