Iranian vice president, WIPO head meet in Geneva on intellectual property rights

The Iranian vice president for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy has met with the head of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the sidelines of the Social Forum of the Human Rights Council in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The talks between Rouhollah Dehghani Firouzabadi and WIPO Director General Daren Tang focused on promotion of bilateral ties, including in areas to help preserve the rights of Iranian knowledge-based companies in the global markets and train Iranian experts in the field of intangible assets evaluation of the knowledge-based companies.

The Iranian vice president said protection of intellectual property is the main challenge for Iranian knowledge-based companies to gain a foothold in international markets.

He demanded a mechanism be established so Iranian knowledge-based companies can be included in the process of evaluating intangible assets to ensure that their rights will be protected in foreign markets.

WIPO is expected to send a delegation to Iran in the near future to follow up on the agreements made in the meeting and also hold educational courses for Iranian experts.
