A historical achievement: Iranian firm exports strategic catalysts worth $20mn to Russia

An Iranian knowledge-based company has taken giant leaps in exporting catalysts to other countries, with Russia being the prime target country, according to a report by the information center of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy.

The oil and gas Sarv Company, with decades of experience under its belt, has set a record of 20-million-dollar worth of strategic catalysts’ export to Russia.

Amir Houman Karimi Vasigh, the director of the company, says Sarv has also taken a step further in the field of exports, with an eye on “creating industries instead of running factories.”

Experts from the knowledge-based company in three steel and petrochemical complexes in Russia are setting up catalyst production units for the country, he explained.

Sitting on some of the largest oil and gas reserves, Iran has been one of the largest consumers for industrial catalysts in the world for its petrochemical industries.

Karimi Vasigh said importing catalysts from China and India in the past used to put a considerable financial strain on Iran, but thanks to the expansion of homegrown catalyst production in Iran, the country has become self-sufficient.
