Iranian dental composite prevents tooth decay

Researchers of a knowledge-based company in Iran have produced and commercialized a dental composite containing nanoparticles, which is used to prevent tooth decay, especially in children, according to the Iranian Vice President’s Office for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

The chairman of the board of directors of Pishgaman Salamat Eksir Company, which made the product, said covering and smoothing the grooves in dental cavities is one of the solutions to prevent tooth decay.

Mohammad Moazzen also said, “The first generation of compounds used in grooving were made of resin, but nanoparticles are used in the latest formula of the materials.”

He said the new material can penetrate deep into the grooves and remove the possibility for food to get stuck among the teeth cavities.

The CEO of the knowledge-based company said currently 10,000 units are annually produced for domestic consumption, adding the company is planning on increasing its production to supply the foreign markets as well.

Moazzen also noted that the Iranian dental composite costs a third of foreign brands.
