Iranian-made drug reducing Covid side effects receives global patent

Thanks to efforts by Iranian researchers, an Iranian-made medicine that reduces the side effects of the Coronavirus, known as Saliravira, received a global patent.

Saliravira was produced and unveiled in June 2021.

The CEO of the knowledge-based pharmaceutical company Mim Daroo said Saliravira was patented in Iran last year. Reza Ramezani added that preclinical and clinical tests were conducted to this end.

Ramezani noted that prior to that, the ethics code and clinical trial licenses were obtained from the Iran University of Medical Sciences, a branch of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Iran.

He also said that the company signed a contract with a reputable peer in Europe to protect Mim Daroo legally, because the technical part of patenting is highly tedious and specialized work.

The CEO of the company added, “Therefore, Mim Daroo needed an experienced company to help it in this way.”
