Iranian companies licensed to export medicine to Kenya

The Kenyan government has given 11 Iranian companies the license to export medicine and medical products to the African country.

The Iran House of innovation & Technology (iHiT) in Kenya made the arrangements with the Kenyan Health Ministry to receive good manufacturing practices (GMP) certificates for the Iranian pharmaceutical firms, as a prerequisite for exports.

The certificates were issued after a team of visiting Kenyan experts inspected the Iranian companies’ production lines last year.

The development is considered a giant leap for the Iranian companies to show off their knowledge-based capabilities in the East African country with a population of over 50 million people, 70 percent of whose medicine needs are supplied through imports.

Given the vastness of the medicine market in Kenya, the cooperation is expected to lead to the economic growth of the Iranian pharmaceutical industry by claiming a bigger share for Iranian knowledge-based firms in the highly competitive market in East Africa.
